New Line Cinema
Project Overview
New Line Cinema needed a vendor they could trust to evolve the Lord of the Rings website for the sequel to the Academy Award® winning epic, The Fellowship of the Ring. Because of it's successful track record with New Line films, Avisan Design Group was selected to create and manage the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers website and online marketing campaign. New Line envisioned the site as a place that fans would embrace and return to on a daily basis for news, events and exclusives. Equally important to New Line was the ability to attract new visitors and make them feel welcome and entertained without being overwhelmed. Avisan became immersed in the lore of Middle Earth and emerged with a site which exceeded all expectations.
Challenge
The Lord of the Rings demanded a site as epic as the movie it promoted. Lord of the Rings fans world wide have an insatiable thirst for frequently updated information and behind the scenes exclusives into the world of Middle-earth. The site needed to provide an authoritative source for all of this information that would satisfy the most ardent fan, while maintaining accessibility for the average visitor. It was also imperative that the site remain true to it's rich heritage and the fan's intense cultural bond to the story.
Strategy
The sites requirements for fluid development and frequent updates fits well into Avisan's design philosophy. Every component developed for the site was created in a modular manner, allowing for extension as well as syndication in the future.
Results
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers site keeps millions of visitors in the know, with frequent content additions and bonus materials. The Inside the Effects module, in particular, was a significant accomplishment, and was featured by Macromedia as the Flash Site of the Day for just under a week.
The fan sites said it best:
"If there is but one link you check out today, this is it. This is your opportunity to go behind the effects and discover exactly how cutting-edge technology was used to create the epic prologue battle scene on the fields of Mordor. It's really quite amazing. Wow, those Offcial Site people sure have been busy."
